1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They let the site remember your actions and preferences (such as language or login state) so you don't have to re-enter them on every visit.

2. Categories we use

• Essential: required for the site to function — session cookies for login, CSRF protection, and your cookie-consent choice itself. Cannot be switched off.
• Analytics: help us understand how visitors use the site (Google Analytics 4, via Google Tag Manager). Anonymised where possible. Off by default unless you accept.
• Marketing: used for advertising effectiveness and remarketing (Google Ads, Meta Pixel). Off by default unless you accept.

3. Third-party services

• Google Tag Manager — loads other measurement tags (Google LLC, USA — Standard Contractual Clauses).
• Google Analytics 4 — traffic analytics (Google LLC, USA).
• Google Ads — conversion tracking and remarketing (Google LLC, USA).
• Cloudflare — security and CDN, uses a technical cookie (__cf_bm) to distinguish humans from bots. Strictly necessary.

4. The trust badge on third-party shops

The CheckShop badge embedded on shop websites does not set cookies or track visitors. It fetches a static JSON from our API and renders a score — nothing more.

5. How to control cookies

You can accept or reject non-essential categories via the cookie banner on your first visit, or change your choice any time by clicking the 'Cookie settings' link in the footer. You can also delete cookies via your browser settings — note that this may log you out and reset preferences.

6. How long cookies are stored

• Session cookies: deleted when you close the browser.
• Consent preference: 12 months.
• Analytics: up to 14 months (GA4 default).

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in technology or law. The 'Last updated' date at the top shows the latest revision.
